The Importance of Self-Acceptance: Being Good and Pure in Harmony with Oneself

The quote for this article comes from Swami Vivekananda:

“The world can only be good and pure if our lives are good and pure.”

This quote is intriguing as it addresses the resonance between our behavior and the world around us. When we are kind and polite, we are usually treated the same way. However, Vivekananda’s statement goes further. “Being good and pure” means more than just politeness; it also encompasses moral integrity, honesty, and ethical action. It describes individuals with integrity who live positive values and consider the well-being of others in their thoughts and actions.

But is it possible to be good and pure in the long term? Can one always be at peace with oneself and remain balanced while focusing entirely on the well-being of others? This is a lofty goal. Excessive selflessness can lead to losing oneself. When we prioritize others and neglect our own needs, we often lose touch with ourselves.

When difficult life situations arise, such as the loss of a partner or a job, we may find ourselves facing an emotional void, unsure of what we live for or where our purpose lies. Therefore, it is crucial to first discover the meaning and purpose of life for ourselves. Only after we have understood and defined ourselves can we authentically be good and pure for others, based on our own values and meaningful beliefs.

Thus, the first step is to be good and pure to ourselves before we attempt to extend these qualities to others. What do you think about this?
